Liposuction Techniques
Dr. Parakh will help you decide which type of liposuction is best for your individual case.
With the tumescent liposuction technique, fluid containing epinephrine and numbing medication is introduced into the treatment area. The fluid firms the skin to make fat removal easier, and the epinephrine decreases the bleeding during surgery by constricting the blood vessels.
Fat is suctioned out with a cannula (a small, thin tube). Dr. Parakh uses specialized power-assisted liposuction cannulas by Microaire and Vibrasat. These devices vibrate with a 2 mm reciprocating stroke at 4,000 cycles per minute. The vibrational energy separates the fat cells, which then mix with the fluid and can be easily suctioned out of the body. This means less force is required, especially in areas where the fat is much denser. The result is a quicker, smoother recovery. In addition, no heat is generated by the cannula with this technique (unlike laser or ultrasonic lipo), so there’s no risk of burning the tissues or skin.
