What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a trusted fat-reducing procedure that has been an active subset of plastic surgery. It has been safely performed for over 30 years. This minimally invasive cosmetic procedure is used to remove excess fat deposits from areas of the body using a small, thin tube called a cannula. It is ideal for reshaping the torso by addressing genetically stubborn areas of fat or changes that happen with pregnancy or aging. Thanks to Dr. Parakh’s precision-oriented approach, our results of liposuction in New Jersey by Dr. Parakh are long-lasting and elegant.

What Is Buffalo Hump Liposuction?

While there will always be “classic” areas in which to receive liposuction (such as the stomach, double chin, and thighs), there are areas that are more specific — including the “buffalo hump”. This is the common name for an abnormal amount of excess fat found between the shoulder blades at the base of the back of the neck. Liposuction is an excellent way to remove the fat tissue of a buffalo hump and restore the natural contour of the back.

Liposuction Techniques

Dr. Parakh will help you decide which type of liposuction is best for your individual case.

With the tumescent liposuction technique, fluid containing epinephrine and numbing medication is introduced into the treatment area. The fluid firms the skin to make fat removal easier, and the epinephrine decreases the bleeding during surgery by constricting the blood vessels.

Fat is suctioned out with a cannula (a small, thin tube). Dr. Parakh uses specialized power-assisted liposuction cannulas by Microaire and Vibrasat. These devices vibrate with a 2 mm reciprocating stroke at 4,000 cycles per minute. The vibrational energy separates the fat cells, which then mix with the fluid and can be easily suctioned out of the body. This means less force is required, especially in areas where the fat is much denser. The result is a quicker, smoother recovery. In addition, no heat is generated by the cannula with this technique (unlike laser or ultrasonic lipo), so there’s no risk of burning the tissues or skin.

What To Expect After Liposuction in NJ

Liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure, which means you can go home the same day. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, especially in the surgical area. Following your liposuction in New Jersey, you’ll need someone to take you home and stay with you for 24 hours after the procedure. Your helper can also assist you in obtaining any required prescriptions and can make sure you take them correctly for the first 24 hours. Many liposuction patients are able to return to work after a couple of days. You may notice bruising and swelling at first, but these side effects will diminish with time. Within two weeks, you’ll be back to normal — only with a smoother, firmer look.
